Express Entry Canada Immigration

How Express Entry Works?

Express Entry System is a tool used by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for management and processing of immigration applications for permanent residence for skilled workers in Canada or overseas.

Express Entry System manages applications for permanent residence under the federal economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Canadian provinces/territories can also recruit candidates from Express Entry through their Provincial Nominee Programs. First, a candidate has to create an Express Entry Profile and provide information about his or her skills, work experience, language ability, education, etc. Each of the three federal economic immigration programs has the minimum eligibility requirements. If a candidate meets the requirements of at least one program, then this person will be put in the Express Entry Pool of candidates. Top ranking candidates from the pool will be invited to apply for permanent residence.

An express entry candidate can stay in the pool for 12 months, if they are not issued an ITA within 12 months, they will be required to create a new profile and enter the pool again.

Once an ITA is issued, applicant has 90 days to submit complete application for Permanent Residency which includes uploading of all supporting documents. Express Entry allows fast processing of immigration applications within six months or less.

PNP(Provincial Nominee Program)

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province.

Each Canadian province (except Quebec, which has a different selection system) and two territories have their own unique Provincial Nominee Programs. Participating provinces and territories sign agreements with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that allow them to select immigrants who meet the requirements that they have set forth.

Provincial and territorial governments have been using these programs to more effectively and efficiently welcome newcomers to their region. Each PNP is tailored to the province’s/territory’s specific needs to select nominees who will be able to settle into life and work in the region and to effectively contribute to the community. As of 2015, most PNPs contain at least one immigration stream aligned with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system. These are known as ‘enhanced’ nominations;candidates in the Express Entry pool who obtain a nomination from a province are awarded 600 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System, out of possible total of 1,200. Eventually, an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residency will be issued to the candidate.

Depending on the province or territory, candidates eligible to enter the Express Entry pool may either enter the pool first and then be nominated by a province or territory, or be nominated by a province or territory before completing an online Express Entry profile and entering the Express Entry pool. In most cases, candidates are required to be in the pool before an application for an enhanced provincial nomination certificate can be made.

Investor and Business

The Investor Program seeks to attract individuals with business or managerial experience who will contribute to the development of the Canadian economy.

If you are looking to make an investment in Canada or to start a business in Canada, You can either apply under the federal start-up visa program or any province in which you are planning to invest under the provincial business immigration programs that is The Start-up visa program, Provincial Nominee Program, Quebec Business Immigration.

To qualify under the Investor Class, there are conditions of having prior business experience, certain minimum net worth and a five year lock-in on the investment done in Canada.

Visitor Visa and Super Visa

Foreign nationals need a visitor visa to enter Canada if they are not from the visa-exempt countries and planning to do touristic activities, visit family members/friends living in Canada, study English or French as a second language or study at any other program for less than six months, or conduct international business activities. Most visitors are allowed a maximum six-month stay from the day they entered Canada. However, the minimum allowed stay could be any period less than a six-month period. Extensions may be applied for within Canada.

The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa (Super Visa) is a temporary resident permit that allows parents and grandparents to stay for up to 2 years in Canada per visit. It is valid for up to 10 years. A regular multiple-entry visa is also valid for up to 10 years, but only allows stays of up to 6 months per visit.

Study Permit

A Study Permit is a permit issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada that allows a foreign national to study in Canada for a limited time. A prospective student must obtain a Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institute, Financial Support to cover first year tuition fee and living expenses, Police Clearance Certificate, Medical Examination and so on. Study Permit expire 90 days after Graduation regardless of the date printed on the permit. Many Graduates are eligible to apply for post-graduation work permit that allows student to work for any employer anywhere in Canada for up to three years after Graduation. It may lead to make students eligible for Permanent Residency if they are meeting eligibility criteria.

Citizenship

There are eligibility requirements for a Canadian citizenship application. First, a candidate must have been a permanent resident of Canada and physically been in Canada for at least three years during four years. There are some cases and factors that lead Citizenship judges to bend the three years rule. Also, a Canadian citizenship test should be taken, and language requirements and tax obligations must be met before a permanent resident can make a Canadian citizenship application.
