What does it mean to “retain” a lawyer?

Retaining a lawyer simply means hiring a lawyer to help you with a legal matter. There are two parts to retaining a lawyer. The first is a retainer letter and the second is payment of a retainers.

Once you have retained one of our lawyers, they will draft a retainer letter which includes all the important details such as how you will communicate with your lawyer, the services they will provide, and how you will be charged for services.

For many cases, you will also be required to pay a retainer which is essentially a down payment for the services that will be offered.

How much will using a lawyer cost?

Every case is unique and varies in complexity. In some cases, we may be able to give you a good idea of what it will cost during our initial meeting.

Keep in mind however, that oftentimes using a lawyer is much less expensive than not using one, as a professional lawyer can keep you from making legal mistakes that could cost you a lot of money, and in cases where a settlement is involved, a professional lawyer can usually get you a much higher amount than you could get on your own.
