Who qualifies for an express entry visa?
There are three categories of express entry that you may fall into
Federal Skilled Worker Program
This category includes foreign workers with experience in managerial, professional or technical jobs and skilled trades. This category uses a 100-point grid to determine eligibility. To pass this gridding system, you will need 67 points.
Federal Skilled Trades Program
This group for express entry has a wide variety of applicable industries: from chefs and butchers to industrial, electrical and construction trades. For this category, you need at least 2 years working experience in the specific industry or trade within the last 5 years before you apply for the visa.
Canadian Experience Class
This class asks for Canadian experience in managerial, professional or technical jobs but, unlike the federal skilled worker class, it doesn’t use a point gridding system. This class requires at least 1 year of Canadian experience within the last 3 years before you apply for the visa.
There are also additional provincial programs that can be used to determine eligibility based on the unique employment needs of each province.
